Nothing Is Cheap Anymore. An Improvised Lunch. #fritz

Nothing is cheap anymore.

That being said, we got this rice pilaf product, from Dollarama, for $1.25. We microwaved that for three minutes, stirred in the sauce, kept on cooking our other stuff, and then miked it for another minute, and then another minute, until we had our roast chicken legs and other items on our sexy black plate.

It was fucking hot all right.

Let's be honest, I had no idea of what to cook, there wasn't all that much in the freezer, the fridge or the cupboards. It is a process of elimination, and I am not in the mood for pork chops...gots no fishies and no onions for cheeseburgers, even if I hadn't had a cheeseburger for lunch. Which, in fact, I did.

And, I can't help thinking that cooking at home is still better than almost any convenience food, if nothing else, it makes you kind of work for it. It keeps you honest, ladies and gentlemen.

So there.

We've been meaning to try the rice, and what the hell.

What the hell. You get to write a blog post and eat it too, sort of thing.

This is the last of six chicken legs, purchased fresh from Food Basics, lightly coated with #Shake & Bake and then frozen. Six legs for $5.40, that is $0.90 per leg, right.

Well, let's give it a go.

Right???

(We may be crazy, but we read the flyers, ladies and gentlemen.)

We made up a couple of ounces of French onion chip dip, using (ahem), two ounces of sour cream, ten percent sugar by volume, from Food Basics. That cost about $2.19, and it is good to have a bit of that round the house. As for the dip, we're not too sure what we're going to do with it, but it tastes good. There is a good teaspoon or two of soup mix in there.

The dehydrated onion soup mix, at about $1.99 for four packets, (just add boiling water), is also good to have around. The link leads to all sorts of uses and recipe ideas. The basic idea is to adapt, to improvise, and to overcome.

My mother gave me the orange pepper, which definitely adds a good bit of good old fashioned heat to this little snack.

Romaine is always good as green, leafy vegetables are always good and it is, in fact, a #green_leafy_vegetable.

A bit of heat won't hurt you...

There is (or are - ed.) at least four servings of rice in there, which sort of implies leftovers if nothing else...

Don't forget the Billy Bob hot sauce, which is good for so many things, including a lack of imagination on my part if not yours...

Yeah. So we baked the chicken, from a frozen state, for exactly one hour at 375 F, which as one might admit, gives us plenty of time to rummage through the fridge, the freezer, the cupboards, drink beer, take photos of our lunch, and all that sort of a thing.

(So, how was Switzerland. How was your mother? – ed.)

(Good. #fritz Now fuck off.)

Oh—and don’t forget the beer, no matter how cheap.

We love roasted meat.

Poor old Fritz does not have any books but #Louis does.

See his art on ArtPal.

Thank you for reading.
